AILEEN ELIZABETH WALTNER

October 1, 1924 – March 2, 2014

Beloved mother, grandmother, partner, nurse, quilter, square dancer and lover of life, Aileen passed away peacefully in her sleep after a long illness.

Aileen is survived by her loving partner Tom Ferbrache, her son Alan Conrad Waltner, and granddaughter Margaret Rose Waltner, her brother George Runck and his wife Mary Ann Runck.  She is preceded in death by her parents Lena Margaret (Ott) Runck and John Jacob Runck, brother Ivan, sister Della (Runck) Taylor and husband Peter Steven Waltner.  She is also survived by Tom’s daughter Deby Coffey, Alan’s wife Mary Susan Hansen, nephews Rex and Gary Taylor, Scott Runck and niece Jill Pulley, as well as scores of family members in Nebraska and California, Alpha Tau Delta nursing sorority sisters, Valley University Women friends, and quilting friends in Burbank.

Aileen was born in Nebraska, spending her early years on her family’s farm before moving to Los Angeles in 1948.  Aileen received her nursing diploma in 1945 in Hastings, Nebraska.  She later attended UCLA to earn a master’s degree in nursing. She has been an active member of Alpha Tau Delta since the 1950’s and has held many leadership roles including President of the national organization and the local chapter.  She was also on the local and national boards for many years.  She was involved with the UCLA nursing alumni association, the Valley University Women and other business and professional groups.

Aileen was an avid quilter throughout many decades, played the piano, and loved to square dance (where she met her devoted partner Tom).  Tom and Aileen loved to travel and camp and had many adventures traveling in Tom’s RV in California and Nebraska for family reunions and vacationing around the country to national wonders and to visit friends.  Aileen was very fond of children.  She especially loved Tom’s great-grandchildren.  Her face would light up whenever the children were around.  She was also a great cook.  Aileen had boundless energy and was loved by all who knew her.
